A CHILLED WEEKEND

A perfect weekend no have to do, no have to goes, Friday started with lunch out and coffee after, no rush no where to be just eating, drinking coffee dodging rain showers.  On Saturday lunch at the Corner House Manchester not the first choice but our preferred choice The Thirsty Scholar what seems like a seedy student pub under the railway arches but does[ did ? ]really good vegan / vegetarian food  appears to have shut down, then we watched Jane Eyre at the Corner House Cinema, what was nice unlike other film endings peole stayed and just listened to the music and read the credits nice.

Our meal at he Corner House Cafe was good, I had a falafal burger with chips and Daughter had a vegan pizza, would recommend last time we went food was not up to much hopefully this wasn't a one off and has improved I believe it is under new management

The rest of the weekend just pottering reading new books, planting out new rosemary plant, baking pear and strawberry crumble, eating strawberry and pear crumble with soya neapolitan ice cream with rain lashing on the windows while watching You've Got Mail, yes Autumn is here, also with the rest of the world watching Downton Abbey love it so much.

There of course was time do a bit of thifty shopping, old biscuit tins and embroidered cloths with some more plates for hire stash

NEW SEASON WARDROBE

To Autumn by William Blake
O Autumn, laden with fruit, and stain'd
With the blood of the grape, pass not, but sit
Beneath my shady roof; there thou may'st rest,
And tune thy jolly voice to my fresh pipe,
And all the daughters of the year shall dance!
Sing now the lusty song of fruits and flowers.

'The narrow bud opens her beauties to
The sun, and love runs in her thrilling veins;
Blossoms hang round the brows of Morning, and
Flourish down the bright cheek of modest Eve,
Till clust'ring Summer breaks forth into singing,
And feather'd clouds strew flowers round her head.

'The spirits of the air live in the smells
Of fruit; and Joy, with pinions light, roves round
The gardens, or sits singing in the trees.'
Thus sang the jolly Autumn as he sat,
Then rose, girded himself, and o'er the bleak
Hills fled from our sight; but left his golden load.

Although a bright and sunny day here today, this morning there was a delightful nip to air , spent the day sorting out winter clothes and packing up summer lights and strappy sandals, it's funny how you forget in just a few months what you have put away it's almost like shopping with no shops or cash, now off to charity shop with a bag of no longer wanted clothes.

LEFT OVER THURSDAY

What's in the fridge ?

Thursday is the day we go through the fridge see what needs using up and can be made into a meal from the store cupboard, we had left over mashed potatoes left over boiled and marinated Anya potatoes, so after a look in the cupboard I made potato topped lentil casserole

RECIPE

Chopped onion
1 celery stalk chopped fine
3/4 crushed garlic cloves
2/3 tablespoons of vegetable oil
1 tablespoon of vegetable marg [you can use butter]
1 teaspoon of dried ginger
1 teaspoon of dried chilli powder
1 tablespoon of gram marsala
1 teaspoon of turmeric
4 handfuls of red lentils
2 handfuls of frozen garden peas
1 pint of veg stock[ I use marigold low salt ]

Left over mashed potatoes /or sliced boiled potatoes

Sweat the onion and celery in the oil and marg until softened add the spices and garlic and cook for about 5 minuties if getting dry splash in a little water

Add the lentils and stir through for a minute or so and then add stock, cook until lentils soften add the peas and cook 1 more minute, cool and pop into casserole dish and then add cold mashed potatoes or slices of cooked potato
cook in a medium oven 180 approx for 30 minutes and serve with crusty bread

I made one large one for tonight's dinner topped with mashed and 3 smaller ones for lunch's tomorrow
